Partner Stefano Mele Contact

Stefano Mele is a Partner in Carnelutti Studio Legale Associato, where his practice focuses on Technology, Privacy, Cybersecurity and Intelligence Law.
He holds a PhD from the University of Foggia, and works collaboratively with the Department of Legal Informatics at the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan.
He is a member of the Governing Board and President of the “Cybersecurity Commission” of the Italian Atlantic Committee. He is the President of the “Cyber Security Working Group” of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AMCHAM), and a member of the “Cyber Security Roundtable” of Regione Lombardia and of the “Advisory Board on Cyber Security” of Assolombarda.
He is the Director of the “InfoWarfare and Emerging Technologies” Observatory of the Italian "Niccolò Machiavelli" Institute of Strategic Studies, and co-founder and President of the non-profit organization CyberPARCO.
Stefano also has lectureships with several universities and military research institutions of the Italian Ministry of Defence and NATO, and he is the author of the “Cyber Strategy & Policy” and of several academic papers and articles on cybersecurity, cyber intelligence, cyber terrorism and cyber warfare topics.
In 2018, ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) included Stefano in its List of Experts on the “EU Legal Framework on Data Protection and Privacy” and “Analysis of the Legal Framework relevant for Information Sharing”.
In 2014, he was included in NATO’s list of Key Opinion Leaders for Cyberspace Security.
In the same year the business magazine Forbes listed Stefano as one of the world’s best 20 Cyber Policy Experts to follow online.
Stefano is a member of the Italian Bar. He is fluent in English.

1st National Convention on Cyber Risks in Health Services

Stefano Mele was a key-note speaker at the 1st National Convention on “Il Cyber Risk in Sanità” (Cyber risks in Health Services), with a speech entitled: “La protezione legale dei dati sensibili sanitari: cosa fare per essere in compliance con il Regolamento Generale sulla Protezione dei Dati Personali dell’Unione Europea?” (The legal protection of sensitive health data: How to be compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union). The event took place at the Auditorium Giovanni Testori - Palazzo Lombardia - in Milan.

Sino-European Cyber Dialogue

May 10, 2016
Stefano Mele was the only Italian guest invited to take part in “Sino-European Cyber Dialogue”, a closed-door meeting among the top government cybersecurity experts of Europe and People’s Republic of China. The meeting took place in Oslo. Attendees included the Ambassadors for Cyberdiplomacy of the British, French, Spanish and Norwegian governments. It’s aim was to develop a dialogue on cybersecurity issues between the European Union and the Chinese government.
