Partner Ruggero Rubino Sammartano Contact

Ruggero Rubino-Sammartano is a Partner at CARNELUTTI Law Firm and an international arbitration lawyer active in Italy, with extensive experience in international and domestic arbitration, cross-border litigation and complex commercial disputes.

Based in Milan and dual-qualified in Italy and France, Ruggero advises and represents Italian and international companies in arbitration proceedings involving Italy and other jurisdictions in Europe. His practice focuses in particular on international commercial arbitration, corporate disputes, contractual disputes and cross-border litigation, both as counsel and in matters involving international arbitral institutions.

He has more than twenty years of experience in international legal matters, developed through professional experience in Milan, London, New York, Paris and Munich. This international background enables him to assist foreign companies and multinational groups requiring an Italian arbitration lawyer capable of working across different legal systems, languages and business cultures.

In addition to dispute resolution, Ruggero advises foreign clients on Italian corporate and company law, supporting their day-to-day activities in Italy as well as extraordinary transactions, including M&A and corporate reorganisations n different sectors such as construction, transport, telecommunications, semiconductors, life sciences, food and textiles.

A significant part of his practice consists of acting as a point of reference in Italy for foreign shareholders, boards and legal departments. He combines dispute resolution expertise with an understanding of corporate and commercial matters, allowing him to assist clients not only when a dispute arises but also in assessing contractual and litigation risk at an earlier stage.

Ruggero is admitted to the Milan Bar and to the Paris Bar and regularly operates in Switzerland. He is actively involved in the international arbitration community and regularly participates in conferences and professional initiatives concerning international arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution in Italy and Europe.

He is also a member of the editorial board of the legal review Il Foro Padano and serves within the International Committee of the Milan Bar. He regularly speaks at conferences and publishes articles and contributions on arbitration and mediation, including in several languages.

Ruggero is currently President of the European Court of Arbitration, arbitral institution seated in Strasbourg (France) and is Head of the Scientific Committee of the Milan Lawyers’ Chamber

His international arbitration practice benefits from his ability to conduct matters directly in multiple languages. A native Italian speaker, Ruggero is fluent in English, French and German and has a good command of Spanish.
